EMBARK Launches OKC Moves Transit Improvement Study

EMBARK recently launched OKC Moves a Bus Study to assess its existing transit services and explore opportunities for improvement. The general public is invited to weigh in by taking a survey or participating in the upcoming Town Halls on April 15. The year-long study seeks to identify immediate and future needs while forecasting demographics, land use, and major employment development. The study will culminate into a set of recommendations that can enhance bus service for Central Oklahoma residents.

“Our vision is to bring world-class transportation that is accessible to all of our communities,” said Jason Ferbrache, EMBARK Administrator. “Input from our customers and the greater OKC area is crucial to realizing that vision and for creating a dynamic, forward-thinking bus service that integrates with other current and future modes of public transportation. I encourage all residents, even those who don’t currently use public transit, to take the survey, participate in the meetings and lend your voice to developing a transit network that all want to access.”

The public survey opened on April 1. Everyone is invited to visit the project website okcmoves.org to provide feedback on existing transit conditions and provide ideas for improvements. Town Hall attendees will be able to provide direct comments during virtual meetings, to be held on Thursday, April 15, at 12 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. The same content will be presented at both meetings. Instructions on how to join the meetings via Zoom are available on okcmoves.org.

EMBARK has teamed up with Nelson\Nygaard and HNTB to assist with the OKC Moves Bus Study. The study will consider input from customers, residents, employees, local policymakers, local businesses, social service organizations and large employers. The consultant will help EMBARK optimize and expand transit options throughout the next decade.

This fall, community engagement will resume with presentations on its findings and recommendations for service options. The final report is expected by the end of 2021 and will define short- and long-range recommendations.
